About Jim
In 1996 Jim graduated at West Herts University with a BA (Hons) in Imagemaking and Design, he then embarked on a career in graphic design and pre-press production.
With early jobs working in the art departments of Euro Car Parts and later at Black and Decker, he then plunged into the role of freelancer working in the vibrant and high-paced environment of the London design and marketing industry from 2000 until 2018.
However, after eighteen years of commuting into London and getting home late from work, Jim, with the backing of his family, decided on a change of pace and opted to spend more time at home pursuing his love of painting and drawing.
He started by posting a few pictures of his work on social media and was immediately boosted by a very positive response from his network of friends. This encouraged him to build a studio in his garden and since then things have gone from strength-to-strength. Requests for portraits started to come in and each time the result was posted on social media, it seemed to generate new commissions. There have also been various exhibitions including Parallax Art Fair in London. This has been an opportunity for Jim to show off his own series of figurative oil paintings which gained a wonderful reponse from the public culminating in a surprising but welcome commercial result. In fact, Jim’s wife was so pleased with the response at the art fair, she treated him and their son Dylan to a slap-up meal at The Ivy!... praise indeed!

Customer Feedback
Lourdes (portrait of Rio)
Jim was asked to paint a picture of our beautiful Spanish Water Dog Rio and we were blown away with how well he captured her beautiful cheeky face. The picture he painted was amazing and everyone who sees it comments on what an amazing job Jim did of capturing our girl.
Thanks Jim x
Gary (portraits of his kids and Hudson)
Jim did a portrait of our children (given to us by my mother-in-law) it was amazing! We also put in an order before Christmas last minute and he was great with fitting us in for a portrait of our rescue dog that sadly passed away recently. The picture is like having Hudson back in the room, would highly recommend Jim, big thumbs up!
Lisa (portrait of Luna)
Luna 2006 – 2020
We had 14 beautiful years together Luna and I. She doted on all the children and was a supernova of love and loyalty. She meant the world to us and still does and always will but that’s the tragedy of loving a dog. You will outlive them and you will lose them after they’ve been at your side for all those precious years. It breaks you.
I will never as long as I live forget how Jim’s portrait of my girl made me feel. Life-sized, her soft, kind eyes watch you wherever you are in the room, like they always did. Her nose so wet you could imagine it snuffling away on your face and my favourite part was her ears. She had the softest and silkiest ears that I liked to stroke like they were a comfort blanket and they were captured so magnificently I could feel them again.
The day she left was when she passed away but the day her portrait arrived and was put in pride of place in my living room was the day she came home to stay for always. That’s what this painting means to me. My most favourite possession.
Thank you Jim
Paula (portraits of Bowie, Doobie
and Bobby)
I cannot recommend Jim’s Art highly enough, he is an amazingly talented artist. He painted a wonderful portrait of my late father as a gift for my mum, the painting was so life like that it actually took our breath away, there wasn’t a dry eye in the house when we gave it to her. He also painted my nephew’s Jack Russell, again this was as a present, his gift for painting animals is amazing and his attention to detail quite stunning. He also did a painting of David Bowie, this has pride of place in my home, so for all of your fantastic work Jim, thank you.
Sarah-Jane (portrait of Tia)
Very talented!
I had a beautiful portrait done of our boxer dog when she passed.
Absolutely identical to her and done in pastel. What a talented man you are Jim
Mandy (portrait of Tess)
Jim painted my girl Tess so beautifully.
I lost her last July so this painting is even more treasured now. Not a day passes
that I don’t look at it and remember her. If you commission Jim, you will not be disappointed as he has tremendous talent.
Patsy (portrait of Alan and Patsy)
I can’t recommend Jim’s art highly enough. I’d wanted a painting of my husband and me for a long time – a sort of heirloom for our kids to remember us by when we’re long gone! So I gave Jim several photos of us and asked him to work his magic and create an image from them that never actually existed! To say I’m thrilled with how it turned out is an understatement. He totally got the brief and delivered… with bells on!
Angie (portrait of Bonzo)
Jim painted a picture of my dog Bonzo.
The painting was incredible and has taken pride of place in my sitting room.
Lynn (portrait of Martha)
Beautiful artist, highly recommended!
